The second order ancillary is rotation based

چکیده

This paper concerns the approximate ancillary needed for higher order asymptotic likelihood inference. The existence of an exact or approximate ancillary is the key to such inference. The exact ancillary is, however, only available for transformation model and an approximate ancillary is typically very difficult to find. Fraser (1988) revealed that the high order inference can be obtained by using only the tangent directions to the second order ancillary, thus avoiding its specification. The present work discuses the second order ancillary that has the observed contour tangent to the sensitivity directions v 1⁄4 @y=@yjfy0 ;ŷ ðy0 Þg corresponding to a pivot and derived by keeping the pivotal variable fixed at the observed fitted value; these directions are always available (Fraser and Reid, 1995, 2001). For scalar parameter case, such an approximate ancillary is well defined and can be described as a rotation. Our approach provides insights into the second order ancillary outlined by the sensitivity directions in the vector parameter case. & 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Second Order Ancillary is Rotation Based

The present work concerns the second order ancillary determined by the tangent directions V = ∂y/∂θ|{y0; θ̂(y0)} at the observed data y 0 for fixed pivotal value, by using the structural approach of Fraser (1986). We show that for scalar parameter case, such an approximate ancillary is well defined and can be described as a rotation. These second order ancillaries are particularly useful in prov...

Contours Extraction Using Line Detection and Zernike Moment

Most of the contour detection methods suffers from some drawbacks such as noise, occlusion of objects, shifting, scaling and rotation of objects in image which they suppress the recognition accuracy. To solve the problem, this paper utilizes Zernike Moment (ZM) and Pseudo Zernike Moment (PZM) to extract object contour features in all situations such as rotation, scaling and shifting of object i...

Ancillaries and Third Order Signiicance

SUMMARY For a variable and parameter of the same dimension, the tangent exponential model (Fraser, 1988) approximates an asymptotic model to third order in a rst derivative neighbourhood of the data point and to second order otherwise. For the more usual case of a variable of larger dimension than the parameter, we obtain a unique expression for the third order ancillary distribution as project...

Stochastic Unit Commitment in the Presence of Demand Response Program under Uncertainties

In this paper, impacts of various uncertainties such as random outages of generating units and transmission lines, forecasting errors of load demand and wind power, in the presence of Demand response (DR) programs on power generation scheduling are studied. The problem is modelled in the form of a two-stage stochastic unit commitment (UC) which by solving it, the optimal solutions of UC as well...

Location Reparameterization and Default Priors for Statistical Analysis

This paper develops default priors for Bayesian analysis that reproduce familiar frequentist and Bayesian analyses for models that are exponential or location. For the vector parameter case there is an information adjustment that avoids the Bayesian marginalization paradoxes and properly targets the prior on the parameter of interest thus adjusting for any complicating nonlinearity the details ...
